5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP
5-HTP also known as oxitriptan is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the body and is a chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters and melatonin from tryptophan.*
Often 5-HTP is sold as a mood regulator, a supplement that helps with anti-depression, sleep aid and even appetite suppression. It’s been marketed all over Europe and the US under certain trade names for anti-depressant use. Names like Cincofarm, Levothym, Levotonine, Oxyfan, Tript-OH and Triptum. There have been several double blind studies over the last couple of years that have demonstrated the effectiveness of 5-HTP in the treatment of depression and mood regulation. However it has not been tested as an appetite suppressant and is often overlooked by dieting hopefuls.*
5-HTP is a very successful supplement for a lot of different people. It has been used very widely for many years. It is highly suggested for people that have issues with regulating their mood or sleep due to stress, weather and other external factors.*
There are no significant studies available to show that it will help with major chemical imbalances.*
Food doesn’t have 5-HTP in significant enough quantities to allow for this to happen with a simple diet change.*
